This is not a vase!
(2023 - 2025)In this series, I play with the shape of a vase - familiar, yet unusable. Some have no bottom, others are full of holes. You can't put a flower in them - and that's exactly the point. The idea arose when people asked if my work was meant to hold flowers.
EH series
(2019 - 2026)This series is inspired by the nature illustrations of 19th-century biologist and artist Erns Haeckel. His fascination with organic forms, repetition, and symmetry aligns seamlessly with my own sense of wonder for the natural world. Since 2010, I have been working with clay that I collect myself form the earth. This creates a direct connection between source of inspiration, material, and maker.
Kintsugi, the art of repairing with gold
(2025)Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese technique in which broken ceramics are not hidden but repaired in a way that makes the cracks visible — highlighted with gold. The method originated in the 15th century, when Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa had his favorite tea bowl repaired. Instead of disguising the fractures, they were filled with lacquer and gold, making the object even more beautiful than before.
Kurinuki
(2020 - 2026)Kurinuki is a form of ceramics of Japanese origin. From one block of clay you shape the outside. You hit, cut and chip a structure into it. And then you gently hollow it out. As a glaze I usually use left over (no waste) glazes or clay sludge scooped from the Netherlands. This work is for sale.
